What doesn’t kill you…

Watching Rory McIlroy take first round lead in the US Open on Thursday reminded me of the old adage ‘ If it doesn’t kill you, it will make you stronger…’
Recent studies show that business leaders could pay more attention to failures and near misses in order to garner key learnings. Further, and with 80% of new businesses in Europe failing in the first 3 years, do we think business success is achieved first time around?

Whether Rory can go on to win the US Open this week, only time will tell. However, at just 21 years of age, he is clearly over what happened to him at the Masters in April, and trying to apply the learning…keep up the good work, a role model for all of us who have tried and occasionally failed in the past!

PS  The world now knows that Rory did go on and not only win the US Open, but he also broke a significant number of records on the way.  When asked about his success, he said ” I went away from the Masters determined to learn from my mistakes and applied key learnings at the US Open.”  When asked to share his learnings, his answer was a simple  ” No.”  Well played Rory, a hero as well as a role model.
