During times of change, leaders can help by prioritizing activity,
eliminating nonessentials, and focusing on the ultimate value of

Don’t let personality overshadow purpose

Set aside your pride and listen, and in cases where you must reject an
idea from others, make sure you do so because of the idea and not the
person.

Rise above your personal preferences for the sake of the team!

Leaders Attract Potential Leaders

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

True leaders are able to attract potential future leaders because:

– Leaders think like them;
– They express feelings that other leaders sense;
– They create conditions that attract other leaders;
– They are not threatened by people with great potential.

Who are you developing to help you carry the leadership load?

Failure, it’s a strange thing . . . .

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

So, Andy Murray fails again at Wimbledon!  Let’s put his failure in perspective, he is number 4 in the World and the UK’s most successful professional tennis player of all time (no it’s not Tim Henman); has won 19 titles, £10m in prize money; and is the youngest of the current top 5 players.  Also, only 20 players in the history of tennis have reached the last four in all the Grand Slams, Murray is the twentieth to do so. Failure, it’s a strange thing….

What doesn’t kill you…

Friday, June 17th, 2011

Watching Rory McIlroy take first round lead in the US Open on Thursday reminded me of the old adage ‘ If it doesn’t kill you, it will make you stronger…’
Recent studies show that business leaders could pay more attention to failures and near misses in order to garner key learnings. Further, and with 80% of new businesses in Europe failing in the first 3 years, do we think business success is achieved first time around?

Whether Rory can go on to win the US Open this week, only time will tell. However, at just 21 years of age, he is clearly over what happened to him at the Masters in April, and trying to apply the learning…keep up the good work, a role model for all of us who have tried and occasionally failed in the past!

PS  The world now knows that Rory did go on and not only win the US Open, but he also broke a significant number of records on the way.  When asked about his success, he said ” I went away from the Masters determined to learn from my mistakes and applied key learnings at the US Open.”  When asked to share his learnings, his answer was a simple  ” No.”  Well played Rory, a hero as well as a role model.
